04 Dec The Importance of Good Brows
Nothing feels better than stepping out of the house being completely confident in yourself. At Epibrow, we believe in the power of natural-looking beauty and feeling good in your own skin. Through both our products as well as our training courses, we want to give our artists the ability to make you the best version of yourself. This month, we’ll be looking at why it is so important to have good brows.
Eyebrows are one of the most prominent features on a person’s face; they frame the eyes, which are (as the cliché saying goes) ‘the windows to the soul.’ With well-shaped brows, you can get away with very little makeup and still look youthful and well-rested. Along with the mouth, eyebrows are the only features that show emotion, so people can tell how we’re feeling as soon as they look at them. Eyebrows also tend to be the first things someone notices on our faces, so it’s very important that they look their best.
We spoke to New York City-based celebrity brow expert and Hello Henna artist, trainer and distributor Elke Von Freudenberg about the importance of having good brows. Elke believes that stepping out of the house with good brows really does set you up for the day ahead – she says ‘all you need is a good set of brows and lipstick and you’re ready to take on the world!’ She identifies a couple of reasons for the popularity of brows over the past few years: fearing that the 90s ‘super-thin’ brow trend would come back as well as a thicker, fuller brow making people look younger.
“I love that I can help the client achieve the brow goal she always wanted.” Elke Von Freudenberg
Our own Lisa Coleman, a Hertfordshire-based brow specialist and a nominee for the 2019 English Hair & Beauty Awards, also shared her thoughts with us. She thinks ‘brows have grown in popularity over the last few years because of the public’s use of social media but also the need for perfection.’ Like lips and lashes, perfect brows make us feel perfect too. Lisa also thinks eyebrows are crucial: ‘Having good brows frames your face and completes your look. Brows can give back confidence and happiness, something I never thought could be achieved from just eyebrows alone – but the results of good brows are amazing.’
Elke loves helping people with brows that have been mishandled through threading or waxing and seeing the brow evolve. ‘Most brow places treat the brow as a one size fits all, and it’s really not that way,’ she says. ‘I love that I can help the client achieve the brow goal she always wanted.’ Lisa also loves working on transforming brows, particularly for clients who have sparse brows or have lost hairs through illness or hormonal issues.
Both of these artists believe that client care is very important too. Elke believes that ‘a full consultation and a determined goal to reach their best brow’ is needed for each individual, and that ‘this is not a quick ten minute, in and out service.’ Although getting good brows takes time, it is completely worth it. Finally, Lisa summed up our common philosophy when she told us: ‘My clients walk away from me feeling amazing. If they didn’t, I’m in the wrong job!’
